When I was eleven I spent almost the entire school year at The Children’s Hospital in Denver, Co. being treated for leukemia. It was a lot of hard work. I had some really intense chemo followed by a bone marrow transplant. |

I knew I was beginning the toughest battle of my life the moment I saw the large bruise on Kelsey’s thigh. My world crashed during that one glance. It came together; the nose bleed yesterday, the decreased appetite; the pallor in her cheeks. I knew there were demons in our life now and they weren’t going to play fair. Why God, did they choose to attack something that I loved so deeply? Please God let them take anything, really anything I had… just not one of my children. |

At first the doctors at The Children’s Hospital said I had pre-leukemia. It would eventually turn into leukemia but we had a window to work with. We had time to plan what treatment would be best for me and that treatment would include chemo and a bone marrow transplant. The first thing we needed to do was to begin the search for the right donor. |
